IT’S BEEN TWO YEARS

Yes, it’s been over two years since we had a full-time, permanent pastor! We were very blessed to have had Pastor Cyril Johnston step up to become our Interim Pastor for most of that period of time, followed by Rev. Ken Miller. On June 26th, Rev. Dave Smith will be conducting the worship service for the very first time as our new permanent pastor. We are very excited about what Pastor Dave and his wife Dawn will be bringing to our congregation!

Dave and Dawn Smith traveled to Buckhannon from Owasso, MI on Thursday, May 12, 2022 to meet with the Pastoral Search Committee and the Board of Deacons regarding our need for a full-time senior pastor. On Friday, May 13, 2022, the Smith’s met with the members of the search committee, the deacons and spouses for a nice dinner at the Links restaurant. It was a wonderful opportunity to get to know each other in an informal setting. There was much conversation and fellowship.

A meeting with the Smiths and the deacons took place on Saturday afternoon (May 14th) where the position of pastor of our church was offered to Pastor Dave, pending the outcome of a congregational vote. A covered dish dinner was held on Saturday evening and we as a congregation were able to meet the Smiths and ask questions.

Pastor Dave delivered the message on Sunday, May 15. You may watch the replay of that service on Facebook, YouTube or by clicking on the link for that service in our “MEDIA” tab of this web site. A church business meeting was called immediately following the worship service and a silent ballot vote was taken to decide if we were going to accept David Smith as our new pastor. All ballots were yes, by a unanimous decision! Please join us on June 26 as we welcome Pastor Dave to the pulpit. Some of the photos from our dinner with the Smiths at the Links restaurant are shown below. You can enlarge the photo by clicking on it.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW PASTOR

On Sunday, May 15, the Reverend David C. Smith delivered a sermon during the Morning Worship Service. After the service the congregation voted to extend an invitation to Rev. Smith to become our pastor. Rev. Smith accepted the invitation.

When he was 14 years old, he attended a showing of the Billy Graham movie, “A Time to Run”. At the conclusion of the film he went forward and accepted Jesus as his personal savior.

In 1977 he joined the Marines. After serving in the military, Rev. Smith has been serving as a pastor since 1992. In 1995 he graduated from Vennard College, located just outside of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and later received a Master’s degree from the Northwind Theological Seminary in Winter Garden, Florida.

He has been married for 44 years to Dawn Lynn Smith who is an ordained minister, deaf interpreter and singer. They have two grown children, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
